![]() ![]() He has a sarcastic tone and even admits that he is not writing because he wants to but because he has to. He starts out by lamenting the people of his time and telling the reader up front that it will not be a book of cute stories and or one that leaves him/her longing for the days that are being recorded. Most writers want to grab the reader’s attention with the first sentence or at least the first paragraph, but Tours does so in a different way. In the Preface of Book I, Tour paints a bleak yet interesting picture. The Franks were the ruling group of France at the time, and it is through History of the Franks that the world gets a glimpse into the way the culture lived. Brief Summary of Book: Homebrew (Metagamer Chronicles, #1) by Xavier P. ![]() ![]() The story is told a little like a fable and very much like the stories that Sopeap teaches Sang Ly to read. Who was she? How did she end up in a dump if she was an educated woman and why did she drink heavily? What had happened to her to make her such a mess? I was most fascinated by the mystery of Sopeap. Gradually, Sopeap's former life (before the Khmer Rouge slaughtered the educated) comes out through her teaching. She asks Sopeap to teach her, so that she can better their lives. But, something remarkable happens to Sopeap when she sees the book and Sang Ly realizes the rent collector knows how to read. When Ki Lim finds a children's book in the garbage, Sang Ly is excited. None of these books is the novel that has the working title of Lettie Hempstock's Ocean, which should be out in 2013 some time, although contracts aren't signed. And there will be another Chu book (already written), and Fortunately, the Milk (already written), and the next Odd novel (started and plotted) and a mysterious book that I think I know what it is (not even started, won't be for quite a while, and I think I know the setting but not the story). ![]() It'll be published on January the 8th 2013.
